Daily or monthly contact lenses?

Dailies are simpler and generally healthier for the eye surface. Monthlies usually cost less per year. Which is right depends on how often you actually wear them.

Daily disposables

A fresh sterile lens every morning, thrown away every night. No cleaning, no solution, no case, and nothing accumulating on the lens over time.

That last point is the real advantage. Deposits build up on any lens worn repeatedly, and deposits are what make lenses feel less comfortable as a month goes on. A daily lens never gets there.

Monthly lenses

One pair worn for a month, cleaned and stored each night. Fewer lenses over a year, so the annual cost is usually lower, and less packaging.

The trade is that they only stay healthy if the routine is followed properly, every night. Topping up old solution rather than replacing it, or stretching a month into six weeks, is where problems start.

How to actually decide

  • Wearing them every day? Monthlies usually work out cheaper over a year.
  • Wearing them a few times a week? Dailies are often cheaper, because a monthly lens expires whether you wear it or not.
  • Eyes that get dry or irritated? Dailies remove deposit build-up from the equation.
  • Kids and teenagers? Dailies remove the nightly routine, which is the part that gets skipped.
  • Traveling, or sport? Dailies mean no solution and no case to carry.

The comparison nobody makes honestly

A monthly lens is only cheaper if it is genuinely replaced monthly. Stretching lenses past their schedule is common, and it is the most frequent reason people end up with red, irritated eyes and a lens that never feels right. If you know you will stretch them, dailies are the more honest choice for you.

Astigmatism, multifocal, and specialty

Both types come in versions for astigmatism and for multifocal correction, so needing either does not decide this for you. Specialty and hard (RGP) lenses follow different replacement schedules that your doctor will explain.

The right answer comes out of a fitting, where we measure your eye and you wear the lens in real life before anything is final. More about contact lens fittings at Webb.
