Home/Resources/Cost without insurance
Insurance & paymentWhat does an eye exam cost without insurance?
It depends on what the exam involves, and we would rather tell you that honestly than quote a number that turns out not to apply to you. What we can do is explain exactly what drives it, and what your options are if you have no vision plan.
What changes the number
- What kind of exam it is: a routine vision exam is not the same visit as a medical evaluation for an eye condition.
- Whether contact lenses are involved: a contact lens fitting is a separate service with its own measurements.
- What testing is needed: imaging and additional diagnostics are used when there is a reason for them.
- Who it is for: a children’s exam and an adult exam are different appointments.
Vision insurance and medical insurance are not the same thing
This confuses almost everyone, and it changes what you pay. A routine exam to update a prescription usually goes to vision insurance. A visit to evaluate or manage a condition such as diabetes, glaucoma, an infection or an injury usually goes to medical insurance, which many people have even when they have no vision plan at all.
So “I do not have vision insurance” does not always mean you are paying out of pocket. It depends on why you are coming in.
If you genuinely have no vision plan
- Our membership plan gives self-pay patients predictable exam pricing and savings on eyewear, without insurance.
- Financing through CareCredit and Sunbit for qualifying purchases.
- Cash, cards and checks are all accepted at every clinic.
What we will not do
We will not surprise you. Our team reviews your benefits and your options with you before you commit to anything, so that the conversation about money happens up front rather than at the desk on your way out.
We are also not the cheapest option in Scottsbluff, and we do not try to be. What you are paying for is time with a doctor who is not rushing you, technology that catches things earlier, and the four guarantees we put in writing behind the eyewear.
For current pricing, call the clinic nearest you and ask. The full list of accepted plans is here, including which plans we do and do not take.
