Vision Therapy

When reading is harder than it should be.

Some kids can see the board clearly and still fight through every page. Vision therapy is a structured program that helps the eyes and brain work together, tracking, focusing and teaming, not just sharpness on a chart.

Could this be your child?

Signs vision could be part of the problem.

You do not have to know exactly what is wrong to ask for help. These are the things parents tell us they noticed first:

  • Loses their place while reading
  • Skips lines or words
  • Headaches after school or homework
  • Avoids reading or close-up work
  • Trouble copying from the board
  • Homework takes far longer than expected
  • One eye turning in or out at times
  • Squinting, rubbing eyes, or closing one eye

These signs do not mean something is seriously wrong, but they are worth checking. A child who passed the school screening can still struggle: screenings test distance sharpness, not how the eyes track, focus and work as a team up close.

What it is

Training, not treatment.

Vision therapy is a personalized program of guided in-office activities and short at-home exercises. It is not about making eyesight sharper on the chart. It is about how well the eyes track a line of text, hold focus through a page, and work as a team without tiring.

Our doctors begin with a comprehensive eye exam. If eyesight and eye health look fine but the struggles remain, a vision therapy evaluation measures the skills a standard exam does not: tracking, focusing and eye teaming. From there we build a plan for your child’s age and needs, and the goal is comfort, not pushing kids harder.

Adults benefit too: eye strain, double vision, and trouble refocusing after long computer days or an injury are all things a vision therapy evaluation can explain.

What to expect

How it works, visit by visit.

  1. Comprehensive eye exam

We check your child’s prescription and eye health first. Many reading struggles are solved right here, with nothing more than the right glasses.

  2. Vision therapy evaluation

Additional testing for tracking, focusing and eye teaming, the skills reading actually depends on. You are in the room, and questions are welcome.

  3. A plan, explained in plain language

The doctor walks you through what we found and whether vision therapy is recommended. You never have to decide on the spot.

  4. Regular sessions with your therapist

Most programs run weekly or every other week in Scottsbluff or Alliance, with short activities to keep up at home.

  5. Progress check-ins

We track changes in comfort, reading and schoolwork over time, and parents stay involved at every step.

“My glasses broke over Thanksgiving break, and I messaged Webb Eyecare. Someone came in after hours just to get me my new glasses. So thankful for Kelli — she went above and beyond.”

Questions parents ask

Vision therapy, answered plainly.

Is vision therapy the same as tutoring?

No. Tutoring works on what a child is learning. Vision therapy works on how their eyes and brain cooperate while they learn. Many families use both when needed.

Is it the same as the eye exercises I found online?

No, a real program starts with measurement, is tailored to your child, and is supervised and adjusted as they progress. Generic exercises skip all three.

How long does it take?

Programs vary by patient; many run for several months. Your doctor outlines the plan up front and reviews progress with you along the way.

Does insurance cover it?

Coverage varies by plan. Our team will help you understand your benefits and what to expect before anything starts, no surprises.

Can adults do vision therapy?

Yes. Adults with eye strain, double vision, or focusing trouble after injuries or long computer days may also benefit from an evaluation.

What if I’m not sure my child needs it?

Start with a comprehensive eye exam at any of our three clinics. If we see signs that vision therapy may help, we will explain the next steps and you decide what feels right for your family.
